Trinity Celebrates Fiesta:
Miss Fiesta San Antonio 2008 is a Trinity Sophomore
Trinity Sophomore Ashley Mayle has gone from winner of her fifth grade spelling bee at Laurie Auditorium to president of her high school senior class to Miss Schertz to rush chair of her sorority to Miss Fiesta San Antonio 2008. Good thing that her philosophy is: “The more things I have to do, the happier I am.”
Trinity Speech Communication Major Wins Fiesta Oratorical Contest
In celebration of Texas history, Christopher A. Crawford delivered a rousing speech titled “Legendary Lawmen – The Texas Rangers” and won first place in the 2008 Battle of Flowers Association Oratorical Contest.
River Parade & the Tiger Balloon is Back!
Trinity alumni always enjoy volunteering to take part in one of the most popular traditions in San Antonio while spending the day with friends and supporting their alma mater by showing their school spirit.
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair Discusses Rapid Change
When Tony Blair took office in 1997 as prime minister of England and Ireland, he viewed terrorists as guerrillas within the Irish Republican Army. By the time his service ended 10 years later, his definition of a terrorist had changed emphatically. The ensuing decade, he said, saw the rise of Middle East fanatics who flew airplanes into American buildings and a shift in global power from the West to the East.
Focus on Faculty
Trinity University Biology Professor Among Scientists Who Discovered New Species of Giant Elephant-Shrew
Being at the right place at the right time turned out to be a biologist’s dream come true for Trinity University Professor David O. Ribble. He was in Africa in 2006 on academic leave as professor and chair of biology at Trinity when a group of researchers began an expedition in Tanzania to document photographs taken previously of the region’s forest mammals.
Where Did All the Bluebonnets Go? Somebody Messed With Texas Wildflowers!
About 20 years ago, the Texas Department of Transportation introduced a catchy slogan to raise awareness of roadside litter called “Don’t Mess with Texas.” In a twist of environmental irony, the same agency also began seeding roadways with a weed known as King Ranch Bluestem (or KR Bluestem) to prevent erosion and stabilize soils. But as the litter began disappearing, so did springtime displays of bluebonnets and other native wildflowers.

This past year was very exciting for me. I received my Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from the University of Michigan, and, in January, I started a position as a post-doctoral fellow at Washington University in St. Louis.
