The
2004 Alumni Weekend is over, but it will be remembered by many as a
wonderful and by far the very best Alumni Weekend in many years. More than
1,000 alumni and guests participated in a wide variety of events and had a
fabulous time visiting with their classmates and former professors.
Additionally, they heard success stories about a number of initiatives
enhancing the quality of the Trinity education and that surely served to
boost their love and pride in their alma mater. Are you one of those who are following Trinity's Mitchell Distinguished Professor Norman Sherry's work on the life of Graham Greene? With the recent publication of "Volume III" of his massive The Life of Graham Greene, Professor Sherry has been touring the U.K. and U.S., attending book signings and public readings, and meeting reporters. Read the full story. Have you checked the new Website for Trinity's Planned Giving? If not, you will be pleased with the quality of its presentation of the array of important information - all you need to know to maximize the benefits of charitable giving. Check out the neat and precise navigation tools of this new site! |

Miranda Meador, Class
of 2002
Matthew Mahony ('02) and I
were married on September 26th. We're currently living in the Woodlands. I
am finishing my third year of law school, and Matthew teaches American
Literature at Conroe High School. If anyone is in the Houston area, we'd
love to hear from you!
Beth (Pedersen) Fagan,
Class of 2001
Eric Randall Fagan and I
were married on October 2, 2004 in Phoenix, AZ. The whole night was
absolutely magical. Thanks to all my Trinity friends who were able to make
it out for the wedding. I'd love to hear from any of my old Trinity
friends!
Alison Lands, 2000
I'm currently in London,
finishing my second Masters degree in Public & Economic Policy at the London
School of Economics. I've also received an offer from Deloitte Consulting
and hope to return to NYC in August. If anyone is travelling or living
abroad, email me so we can meet up in Europe. Also, if anyone has contact
info for Katie Keene ('98?), I hear she's in Sweden right now and would love
to drop her a line.
Aileen Simborio, Class
of 2000
Aileen now lives in Boise,
Idaho. She moved from Omaha, Nebraska where she was a reporter at the Fox
affiliate to Boise where she is the main anchor/reporter for the Fox
affiliate.
Rene Vargas, Class of
2000
I have recently graduated
in the top 87% from the Ron Popeil School of Cosmetology in Slidell,
Louisiana. Exciting prospects are on the horizon. I plan on opening an
Ethnic Haircare Supercenter in Butte, Montana in the coming months. Hope to
see some Trinty alumni there soon. Wish me luck!
Ronnie Tao, Class of
2000
Hey Everyone. I finally
graduated from the Simon School of Business and have since left Rochester
NY. I'm now living in Detroit Michigan and working for DaimlerChrysler.
So...with that in mind, go buy a Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Mercedes. =) Our
5 year is coming up so I hope to see most of you then. In the meantime, drop
me a line so we can catch up.
Susan (Jewett) Simmons,
Class of 2000
On October 2, I married
Greg Simmons, a 1998 graduate of North Carolina State University. In
Nashville, Tennessee, the ceremony was held at West End United Methodist
Church and the reception followed at the botanical gardens in Cheekwood. Our
wedding day could not have been more perfect! After a wonderful honeymoon in
Hawaii, we are currently living in Nashville. I continue to work for HCA
Inc. Over the past 3 years, I have had the amazing opportunity to travel all
over the world training their hospitals on various web products. I love it
and really enjoy the healthcare industry! Greg is a sales engineer for Tom
Barrow Co. and sells custom HVAC equipment to large corporations. Things are
going great. Keep in touch!
Shannon Retrum, Class
of 1998
Mark Ferguson and I are
happy to announce our engagement. We are planning a wedding April 2, 2005 in
Austin. Mark, a 1999 UT graduate, currently works in corporate finance and I
work as a graphic designer at the same company in Austin. I'd love to hear
from all my Trinity friends!
Charles Youngson, Class
of 1997
My wife Susie Cousins
Youngson ('98) and I had our first baby February 17, 2004. Jeffrey weighed
in at 9 lbs. 1 oz. He's now 20-something lbs. It's taken me 7 months to
send this message out. I guess babies do change your life. We live in
Wimberley, Texas. I serve as Assistant Rector of St. Stephen's Episcopal
Church. Susie is a full-time mom, teaches a few voice lessons, and directs
the children's choir at our church.
Sonya Edmondson
Georgeff, Class of 1995
On September 25th, 2004, I
got married to James Georgeff, a Canadian who originally hails from Toronto.
James and I have been together for almost two years. We got married at the
Marriott Plaza San Antonio Hotel with family and friends from the U.S.,
Canada, and Australia in attendance. We were pleased and honored to have
Reverend Judd perform our wedding ceremony. He made it very personal and
special for us. Dear friends Rachel Sbar Bertucci ('95) and Jenny Weaver
('95) were beautiful bridesmaids and Andrea Priest ('94), Camille Juenke
('94), and Carisa Lopez ('93) were in the House Party. We were so pleased
that several Sigma sisters and many of our other Trinity Alumni friends came
to celebrate as well. After a wonderful two-week honeymoon in France and
Switzerland, we are settling into "married life" in San Antonio!
Doug Black, Class of
1994
Amanda McClean ('96) and I
are thrilled to announce the birth of our first child, Fiona McClean Black.
Fiona arrived at 7 lbs, 3 oz and 20 inches long. We are all doing well. Mom
and dad are very happy and very tired.
Stacy Kanagawa, Class
of 1993 Stacy Kanagawa, DO, FAAP, a pediatrician with St. John's Pediatrics, Lebanon, MO, has been designated a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Additionally, Dr. Kanagawa recently received the Physician's Recognition Award from the American Medical Association. This award is presented to those who show a high commitment to their continuing education by earning at least 50 continuing medical education credits in one hear. Dr. Kanagawa also started the Reach Out and Read Program in her current practice. This program gives each child an age-appropriate book with every well-child examination beginning at age 6 months to 5 years. ---------------------------------
Kurt Desautels, Class
of 1990
My wife Jeanne and I are
proud to announce the birth of our first child, Luke Alexander, who made his
debut on September 16. He tipped the scales at seven pounds-nine ounces, and
just under 21 inches on the tape. Mom, baby and dad are all happy and
healthy, and at least two of us are hopelessly exhausted, but otherwise
doing great.
Lisa (Franklin)
Rosendorf, Class of 1987
My husband, Neal
Rosendorf, and I are delighted to announce the birth of our first child, a
baby boy. Aaron Jordan was born on October 25, 2004, and weighed in at 8
pounds, 9 ounces. He is absolutely adorable! ---------------------------------
Julie Keim, Class of
1986
My CD, Only Yesterday, has
just received three nominations for the Grammy Awards.
Arturo Gorena, Class of
1983
I'm happy to announce the
birth of our third child, Luke Christopher, on September 7, 2004. Luke
follows his brothers Andrew (age 5) and Matthew (age 3) in the family. My
wife Melissa and I live in Houston. We'll miss alumni weekend, again, so
best wishes to former classmates and fellow Teers.
Elizabeth
Flores-Velasquez, Class of 1978 After 17 years as executive director of the Greater Dallas Community Relations Commission, I decided to switch gears. I am now a civil rights investigator with the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services. I have completed my doctoral coursework in sociology but with twin 10 year-old boys, I can't seem to find the time or energy to complete my dissertation. Spending time with my family is my top priority right now. |

We are inviting alumni who work in the fields of government,
law, Foreign Service, or areas primarily interested in CIA work. The four
selected alumni will sit with four students at the table sponsored by
Student Affairs, Career Services and Alumni Relations. In addition to
listening to the speaker, alumni are asked to share their common
experiences, to dialogue about global issues and to network about potential
careers with students at the table. Trinity Alumni Admissions Network (TAAN) -
As alumni, you play a very important role to
increase awareness and knowledge of
Trinity University to
prospective students and their families. In many ways, alumni are the best
ambassadors for Trinity recruitment efforts given that you can share
personal accounts of your experience as a student, campus leader, dedicated
athlete and/or an active member of the larger community. Depending on the
amount of time you can commit to this endeavor, there are many recruitment
activities we encourage you to participate in as a TAAN volunteer:
Career Network - The mission of the Career Network is to support alumni in their career development and management by providing access to resources, tools and chapter activities equipped to strengthen their marketability by sharpening their skills and experience. In addition, the Career Network provides venues and opportunities to bring Trinity University alumni and current students together around career information. Making Connections events currently in San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, Houston, and Colorado provide such networking opportunities. Many alumni utilizing the Career Network will be seeking employment for the first time while others will have many years of experience and are looking for a career change. The Alumni Online Community database (www.alumni.trinity.edu) fulfills a very important role in connecting alumni and graduating seniors. Depending on the circumstance, alumni and graduates can serve as resource contacts, assisting with consultation calls, exploring or simply hearing about a typical day on the job, or seeking information about internships or summer positions. Watch
for more details to come! Contact Elizabeth Halbert,
Alumni
Volunteer Coordinator, at
elizabeth.halbert@trinity.edu if interested in TAAN and/or Career
Network efforts. Include your city and state in your contact information.
