1990 - 1999 We married with John in 2006 and moved to Budapest, where I worked as an employee at a law firm for 1.5 years, then we established our small enterprise: http://www.budapestapartments24.com. We decided to rent out flats to tourists and business travellers. The American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) named Lorie L. Burch, a Dallas estate planning attorney, one of the Top Ten Business Women of the Year. The Top Ten Business Women of ABWA is a national program that honors 10 outstanding members of ABWA for achieving excellence in career, education and community involvement. At thirty-two, Lorie is one of the youngest ABWA members to receive this award. Lorie is the owner and attorney of the Law Office of Lorie L. Burch, PC in Dallas, Texas, which focuses on estate planning, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and probate. Incorporated in 2008, she opened her own law practice in 2004, and reports that starting her own business has been the most rewarding professional experience, both as an attorney and business owner. Chris, Mary Katherine and I are thrilled to announce the arrival of our new baby, Lillian Claire, born on August 6th. We are living in Houston and so happy to be close to family and good friends! I am a finalist in the 2009 American Way Magazine Road Warrior Contest. The ultimate contest winner is decided by an online vote between October 15 and November 14. I would really appreciate the support of Trinity Alumni who will go to the website and vote for me at: www.americanwaymag.com/roadwarrior. Thank you! |

1980 - 1989 I have a patent pending on a process to make documents, websites, forms, etc., accessible to the blind which works in most languages and I have laid it out to work in about 200 languages so far covering about 6.34 billion people. The software to run this is free to the end user and I designed this to work with free screen readers. The American Foundation for the blind is testing it now. Last year I made the National Voter Registration form accessible to the blind and I sent it to the American Foundation for the Blind and the Vice President of the American Association of People with Disabilities presented it to the Elections Assistance Commission, part of the Federal Elections commission. But it did not have my special ingredient and so I now have a patent pending on my process. When I was at Trinity I had tunnel vision, which was progressively getting worse and then suddenly most of it came back, so I have the experience of a blind man and yet was able to look at the software and determine where the mistakes were taking place. This process will preserve culture and enhance literacy as well as help the blind. I plan to lay it out in many languages. I have most of them done! All you need is love! Life in Santa Fe, NM is beautiful at 7,000 feet in the soft mountain range known as the Sangre de Christe. After three years here, I am realizing that for me, living in beauty and light is my life. Like many Trinity grads, I thought my profession was the most important thing and that to be successful meant "doing something in the world" or "making money". However, my path has been different. I am parenting a 2 and nine month old son named Carlos, who is originally from Guatemala. Occasionally, I write for various religious commentaries, I teach at the College of Santa Fe and tutor young ones in writing skills. If there are any other Trinity grads in the area, please contact me.
