Frances K. Hendricks Fine Arts Award

Established by the Spurs sorority on the retirement of Dr. Frances Hendricks in 1968, to honor a graduating senior majoring in one of the fine arts who has made an outstanding contribution to the arts community at the University. The award is presented each year to encourage students in the fine arts to become a vital force in the larger life of the campus.  Dr. Hendricks was a member of the Department of History for about 31 years, and a Spurs sponsor.

The award is for only one student per year.

The award is a plaque and $150.00.

Procedures for nomination:

Each year at the beginning of the second semester members of the Departments of Art, Music, and Speech and Drama will meet independently to discuss the qualifications of students within their department who are eligible for this award.

Each department will send forth the name of one candidate together with a written statement describing the candidate's qualifications for consideration.

We can consider artistic contributions to the larger San Antonio community in bestowing the award, i.e. not just on-campus involvement.
