San Antonio - Two members
of the Trinity University Tigers women’s swimming and diving team have
received bids to compete in the NCAA Division III Championships March
8-10 at Houston.
Junior diver Lauren Walstad of
Katy (Katy) earned the invitation in both the 1-meter and 3-meter
boards. First-year swimmer Maria Lopez of Mexico City received the bid
in the 400-yard individual medley.
The national meet will be held
at the University of Houston Campus Recreational Fitness and Wellness
Center.
Walstad won two diving events at
the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships two weeks ago
in Crawfordsville, Ind. She scored 437.75 points on the 1-meter board
and 472.10 on the 3-meter, setting records on both boards. Walstad was
named SCAC Female Diver of the Year for the second consecutive time. In
January, Walstad captured the Tiger Invitational titles at Trinity’s
Hixon Natatorium. She set Trinity and SCAC records while winning the
3-meter competition with a 491.15. Walstad won the 1-meter with 406.15
points.
Lopez won the 400-yard
individual medley at the Dallas Invitational, with a time of 4:36.41.
She was runner-up at the SCAC meet with a 4:38.93 and also received NCAA
consideration.
The men’s NCAA Championships are
scheduled for March 15-17, also in Houston.
