San Antonio – Christyn Schumann of Dripping Springs, Texas (Dripping Springs High School), a recent graduate of Trinity University, has been selected as one of nine finalists for the prestigious 2006 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

The honor recognizes standout female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics and community service and leadership. The winner of the award will be announced at the annual awards dinner on Saturday in Indianapolis.

Schumann, who earned the bachelor of science in business administration last May from Trinity, is a four-time NCAA Division III national high jump champion. She  won her third consecutive women’s outdoor high jump title in May at the NCAA Division III Women’s Track and Field Championships at Lisle, Ill. Schumann recorded a Division III season and personal-best jump of 5 feet, 9.75 inches (1.77 meters).

She became just the second woman athlete in Division III history (1982-present) to record three or more wins in a row in the event. Schumann won the 2005 and 2004 outdoor championships, each with a jump of 5-9.25 (1.76 meters).

The versatile Schumann also won the 2005 NCAA Indoor high championship with a jump of 5-8.75 (1.75 meters).
