Trinity Falls to Hosting Chapman at Regionals

Orange, California - Trinity's baseball team lost a 7-2 decision to hosting Chapman University at the NCAA West Regional Championships on Thursday night at Hart Park.

Trinity (34-12) fell behind early when Chapman scored a single run in the third inning, and then added two more in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead.  Chapman pitcher Devin Drag didn't allow a hit through the first 6.2 innings, but Johnny Baugus hit a ground ball off the first base bag to break through with the first hit of the game for the Tigers.

Baugus was 2-4 with one RBI in the game, later driving in a run with a single up the middle.  Blake Holman extended his hitting streak to 11 games this year, finishing 1-4 with a run scored.  Bobby Zabor also doubled for the Tigers, while Nick Vera finished 1-3 with a run scored.  Vera also had a stolen base - his 35th of the season.

Drag gave up just two runs on five hits in the complete-game victory, striking out 10 Tiger hitters.  Jarrod Sammet was 2-3 with one run and one RBI, drawing two walks, and Patrick Ohail was 3-4 with two runs scored.

Adam Frey (6-4) took the loss for Trinity, though he gave up just three runs on eight hits through six innings of work, striking out two batters.

Trinity will take on George Fox University tomorrow at noon, with the winner taking on Chapman at 7:00 p.m. tomorrow night.  The loser of the first game will be eliminated from the tournament.
