Orange, California - Trinity's
baseball team was defeated 11-5 by George Fox University at the NCAA
West Regional Tournament on Friday evening.
Trinity (34-13) gave up 20 hits in the
game, and the Bruins jumped out to a 9-0 lead after six innings of play.
George Fox scored in all but two innings of the game, including four
runs in the first two innings.
Tiger starter Chuck Huggins was chased from
the game in the second inning to fall to 6-2 on the year. Senior
John Allen finished off the final inning, keeping the Bruins off the
scoreboard for the second time in the gmae.
After being down by nine, Trinity finally
got on the scoreboard with two runs in the seventh, but George Fox
answered with two more runs. In the eighth, Trinity added three
runs to its total on a three-run homer by senior J.B. Sowyrda.
Sowyrda finished 2-3 with two runs and
three RBI in the game. Jeremy Bays also collected two hits for the
Tigers, as did Bobby Zabor.
Nick Vera extended his hitting streak to
nine games, while Blake Holman's 11-game streak was snapped in an
0-3 day at the plate.
George Fox's Bryan Donohue finished 4-5
with three runs, while Bo Thunell was 3-4 with three RBI. Nick
Hedgecock went the distance for the Bruins, allowing five runs on 10
hits and striking out three batters.
Trinity ends its third NCAA Playoff run
with a 1-2 record at this year's tournament, and ends its season with 34
wins on the year. |
