Centenary Hands Trinity its Fifth Straight Loss

Shreveport, Louisiana - The Tiger baseball lost for the fifth straight time on Sunday afternoon, as Centenary (LA) College won 5-3 to wrap up a two-game series.

Trinity (5-9) scored first in the top of the first inning, but Centenary tied the game in the bottom half of the inning, and then scored two runs in the third to take its first lead.

After the Tigers cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth, the Gents scored two more runs to take a 5-2 lead.  Trinity managed another run in the sixth, but the Tigers left three runners on base in the final three innings and could not score again.

Nick Vera extended his hitting streak to nine games with a 2-4 performance today, also scoring one run.  Andrew Lawson led the team with three hits in the game, cracking an RBI double in the fifth inning.

Steven Ramos and Evan Jones both finished 2-4 with one RBI each, helping the Tigers to 11 hits as a team.  Trinity out-hit Centenary 11-8 in the game.

Britton Horn (0-1) took the loss, allowing five runs - only three earned - on eight hits through seven innings of work.  Horn walked four batters and struck out three.  Ryan Poffenroth closed out the game, striking out one batter in the final inning.

The Tigers travel to Belton, Texas, on Tuesday afternoon, followed by a return home on Wednesday, March 14.  Trinity will host Concordia (NE) University at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
