San Antonio - Trinity's baseball
team returned home after a 10-game road trip, snapping a five-game
losing streak with a 10-3 win over Concordia (NE) University.
Trinity (6-9) opened the scoring with a run
in the bottom of the first, but neither team managed any other runs
until the fourth. The Tigers scored four runs in that inning,
followed by a three-run sixth to pull ahead 8-0. Concordia scored
three combined runs in the seventh and eighth, but Trinity also added a
pair of eighth-inning runs for the final score.
Tiger starter Evan Bronson (1-2) had a
solid outing, giving up no runs on just two hits through six innings,
striking out nine batters. Ryan Poffenroth struck out the side in
his only inning of work, closing out the game in the ninth.
Andrew Lawson was 2-4 with two runs and two
RBI, giving him five hits in his last two games. Lawson had his
second double in as many games as well, driving in two runs in the
fourth.
Bobby Zabor also had a pair of hits for the
Tigers, driving in three runs and scoring once - that score coming in
the first inning. Andreas Verrios scored twice, reaching base
twice on walks in this game.
Trinity improves to 2-0 at home this
season, having beaten Mary Hardin-Baylor in the team's only other home
game earlier in the year. The Tigers remain at home this weekend
to take on Hendrix College in a four-game Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference series.
