Abilene, Texas - The Tiger baseball
team opened up a Tuesday doubleheader with a 10-5 loss to Hardin-Simmons
University at Hunter Field.
Trinity (5-6) could not overcome a
consistent scoring attack from the Cowboys, who scored in all but two
innings in the game. The Tigers actually opened up with a run in
the first to take the lead, and after Hardin-Simmons tied it in the
bottom of the inning, Trinity scored two more runs to make it a 3-1
game.
Hardin-Simmons answered once again, though,
scoring two runs of its own in the second and then adding two more runs
in both the fourth and fifth innings.
Nick Vera cracked a pair of RBI doubles for
the Tigers, finishing 2-4 on the day. Evan Jones was 2-3 with one
run scored, while Blake Holman was 2-4 with one run.
Steven Ramos, the team's leading hitter
this season, was 3-4 with two runs and one RBI to lead Trinity's
offensive attack, which totaled 10 hits. Ramos also walked,
reaching base four times in this game.
Brian Oates started the game for the
Tigers, giving up three runs on five hits through 2.1 innings.
Ryan Poffenroth (2-3) was charged with the loss, giving up three earned
runs - four total - in 2.0 innings of work. Evan Bronson struck
out four batters in 3.2 innings to close out the game.
Trinity travels across town to face McMurry
University later this evening to wrap up the doubleheader action.
