Trinity Opens Doubleheader With Loss to Loyola

San Antonio - Trinity's baseball team lost the opening game of a Tuesday evening doubleheader with Loyola-New Orleans University with a 6-4 loss.

Trinity (14-14) opened the game with three runs in the first two innings, but the Wolfpack came back with a three-run top of the third to tie the game 3-3.  The Tigers regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the inning, but Loyola once again answered with a multi-run inning to take a 5-4 lead.

Loyola scored an insurance run in the sixth inning of the seven-inning game.  The visitors had 11 hits in the game, while Trinity was held to just six hits.

Blake Holman had half of those hits, finishing 3-3 with two doubles and a run scored.  Jordan Pennington was 1-2 with two RBI.

Ryan Poffenroth (4-5) struck out a career-high seven batters in a career-long six-inning outing, but was charged with the loss after giving up six runs.  Chris Walden gave up one hit in the final inning, but struck out one and didn't allow a run.

Trinity and Loyola finish the doubleheader later this evening.
