Jackson, Mississippi -
Trinity's baseball team opened
up a Saturday afternoon doubleheader with an 8-2 loss at the hands of
Millsaps College.
Trinity (13-12, 4-2) falls out of first place in the Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference standings with the loss, while Millsaps (22-7, 7-3)
takes over the top spot in the conference.
Millsaps opened up the seven-inning game with seven combined runs in the
second and third innings. Trinity scored single runs in the fifth
and sixth, but the Tiger hitters were held to just six total hits in the
game.
Game two of the doubleheader made it to the fourth inning before the
rains hit the Jackson area, washing out the completion of the second
game. The game, which Trinity is leading 6-0, has been postponed
until tomorrow. The teams will finish that game and then wrap up
the series with a fourth and final game of the weekend.
Trinity's Blake Holman was 2-3 with one run and one RBI to lead the
offense, cracking his eighth double of the season.
Michael Hunter (1-2) was charged with the loss in the game, yielding
seven runs on six hits to start the game. Ryan Hopkins pitched the
final 3.1 innings, giving up just one run on five hits and striking out
two batters. His first strikeout in today's game was the 100th of
his career, joining Brian Oates and Drew Bignall as current Tiger
pitchers to reach the century mark.
