Sherman, Texas - Trinity's baseball
team finished off a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader
sweep at Austin College with a 14-6 win in game two on Saturday
afternoon.
Trinity (21-8, 9-2) clinched a spot in the
SCAC Divisional Playoffs with the win, which will be held April 18-20 in
Millington, Tennessee.
The Tigers opened up the game where they
left off in game one's 12-0 victory, scoring seven runs in the first
three innings - including a four-run first to start off the game.
Trinity went deep three times in the game, including the second homer of
the day by Kyle Felix.
Felix went 2-5 with four RBI and a run
scored in this game, as well as going 2-4 with two runs and four RBI in
game one on Saturday.
Kevin Calbick posted the third four-hit
game of his career, finishing 4-5 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Evan Jones and Dominick Robusto also collected three hits each.
Jones scored three runs and drove in three more, while Robusto had two
runs and two RBI in the game.
Jeff Claydon and Steven Ramos nabbed two
hits each, while Stosh Hoover had two doubles in the game for the
Tigers. Hoover and Kevin Jackson scored twice each, while Jackson
also drew three walks from his leadoff spot in Trinity's batting order.
After the Tigers went up 7-0, Austin
College scored its first runs of the day with a five-run fifth inning
that chased starter Ryan Poffenroth from the game. Poffenroth gave
up just five hits in four-plus innings of work, but walked five batters
as well.
Clint Robertson (3-0) came on in relief to
earn the win, giving up just two runs - only one of which was earned -
in three innings, striking out a pair of batters. Mike Panozzo
pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings to finish off the game.
After Austin College's big inning cut
Trinity's lead to just two, the Tigers responded with three runs in the
top of the sixth to make it 10-5, then added four runs over the final
three innings to ensure the win.
Trinity and Austin College will finish off
the SCAC series tomorrow at noon, playing a single nine-inning game.
The Tigers face Texas Lutheran on Tuesday, then return home on Wednesday
night against Schreiner University.
