San Antonio - Trinity's baseball
team defeated a team from the NAIA for the second straight day on
Tuesday, beating Concordia (NE) University 9-4 at E.M. Stevens Field.
Trinity (13-7) opened up a 6-0 lead to
start the game, highlighted by a four-run third inning that featured
three extra-base hits.
After Concordia finally got on the board
with a pair of runs in the sixth, the Tigers answered with a pinch-hit
three-run homer from first-year John Prato Matthews to make it 9-2
through six innings.
Prato Matthews finished 2-2 off the bench
for the Tigers, relieving Evan Jones in the sixth inning. Jones
finished 2-3 with one run and one RBI before his departure.
Jordan Pennington was 2-3 with two runs
scored, but was retired for the first time since Sunday's game at
Hendrix. Dillan Early also finished 2-3, driving in two runs.
Jeff Claydon and Stosh Hoover grabbed two
hits each, and the pair combined for three runs scored and two RBI.
Kevin Jackson also scored twice in the game, and drew three walks.
Zach Bukowski (2-1) pitched seven strong
innings to earn the victory in today's game, giving up two unearned runs
on four hits, and striking out a career-high 10 batters. Ryan
Tamez came on for the final two innings, giving up a pair of runs - only
one of which was earned - and striking out five hitters.
The Tigers return to action tomorrow night,
and will face Sterling (KS) College - a third consecutive NAIA opponent
in this eight-game home stand. Thursday, Trinity will open a
four-game SCAC series with Southwestern.
