Austin, Texas - The second game of
Trinity's season-opening doubleheader at Concordia (TX) University did
not go as well as the Tigers had hoped, as the home team earned a split
on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (1-1) gave up four runs in the
first inning of the game, and was not able to complete a comeback.
The Tigers did get to within one run heading into the bottom of the
seventh, but Concordia added three more runs to regain control of the
game.
Tiger starter Brian Oates (0-1) struck out
10 batters in the game, but gave up six runs on five hits through 6.1
innings of work. Britton Horn finished out the final 1.2 innings,
allowing one run on three hits and striking out two batters.
Jeff Claydon was 2-4 with two runs and one
RBI, hitting a one-out homer in the seventh inning. Evan Jones
also homered and finished 1-2 with two runs and one RBI.
First-year John Paillet was 2-5 with one
run and one RBI, while Stosh Hoover was 2-5 in the game. Hoover
collected four hits overall on the day.
John Prato Matthews, who had a home run
among two hits in game one, was 1-4 in this game. Zach Fregosi had
his second RBI of the day as well.
The rubber game of the series will be
tomorrow night in San Antonio. The game will be the home opener
for the Tiger baseball team.
