Trinity Settles for Sunday DH Split

Austin, Texas - The second game of Trinity's season-opening doubleheader at Concordia (TX) University did not go as well as the Tigers had hoped, as the home team earned a split on Sunday afternoon.

Trinity (1-1) gave up four runs in the first inning of the game, and was not able to complete a comeback.  The Tigers did get to within one run heading into the bottom of the seventh, but Concordia added three more runs to regain control of the game.

Tiger starter Brian Oates (0-1) struck out 10 batters in the game, but gave up six runs on five hits through 6.1 innings of work.  Britton Horn finished out the final 1.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out two batters.

Jeff Claydon was 2-4 with two runs and one RBI, hitting a one-out homer in the seventh inning.  Evan Jones also homered and finished 1-2 with two runs and one RBI.

First-year John Paillet was 2-5 with one run and one RBI, while Stosh Hoover was 2-5 in the game.  Hoover collected four hits overall on the day.

John Prato Matthews, who had a home run among two hits in game one, was 1-4 in this game.  Zach Fregosi had his second RBI of the day as well.

The rubber game of the series will be tomorrow night in San Antonio.  The game will be the home opener for the Tiger baseball team.
