Tigers Beaten by Hendrix at SCAC Tournament

Jackson, Mississippi - The Hendrix College Warriors edged the Tigers 9-7 in Saturday’s opening game at the SCAC Championship tournament at Smith-Wills Stadium.

The once-beaten Tigers (23-20) will play Centre later in the day.

Hendrix took an 8-3 lead after six innings, with two runs in the first, and six in the sixth inning. The Tigers responded with two runs in the fourth inning, keyed by an RBI double by designated hitter Kyle Felix. Trinity added a run in the sixth, on a SAC fly by second baseman Jeff Claydon.

The Tigers closed the gap with two runs in the seventh, courtesy of a two-run homer by left fielder Jordan Pennington. Hendrix added a run in the ninth, and led 9-5. Trinity was not about to give up, as the Tigers scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning. This time, a round-tripper came from first baseman Evan Jones, a two-run shot to right field. But the game ended with two Tigers left on base.

Jones batted 5-5 with three RBIs and one run. Felix hit 4-5 with three runs.
