Alpine, Texas - Trinity's baseball
team opened up a three-game weekend series at Sul Ross State University
with a 13-5 win on Friday night.
Trinity (2-6) jumped out to a 3-0 lead
early in the game, then continued to pull away until it was 11-0 heading
into the bottom of the eighth. Sul Ross finally got on the board
with five runs in the bottom of the inning, but Trinity wasn't quite
done scoring, adding two runs of its own in the ninth.
Kyle Felix blasted a three-run homer in the
top of the first inning to start the series off with a bang, going on to
drive in five total runs on a pair of hits. Kevin Calbick hit a
solo home run in the ninth to finish off a game in which he was 3-6 with
two runs and four RBI.
Stosh Hoover hammered out four hits and
scored four runs, with three of those hits being doubles. Jordan
Pennington also drove in a pair of runs, while Evan Jones reached base
three times, going 1-3 and drawing a pair of walks. Steven Ramos
had a pair of hits and scored two runs in the game.
As if the offense wasn't doing well enough,
starting pitcher Evan Bronson made sure his team would be in a position
to win with his performance. Bronson (1-0) pitched seven shutout
innings, allowing just one hit and striking out 11 batters to earn his
17th career win.
Tiger pitchers held Sul Ross to just three
total hits, but did walk six batters and hit one more. Trinity's
offense totaled 13 hits in the game.
Trinity and Sul Ross will continue the
series with single games tomorrow and Sunday. Following this
weekend's series, the Tigers travel to Schreiner University for another
road game, then will return home next weekend against Hendrix College.
