Alpine, Texas - After running away
with the first two games of the weekend series, Trinity's baseball team
had to rally from an early deficit to earn a 10-7 win over Sul Ross
State University on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (4-6) fell behind after Sul Ross
scored a pair of runs in the first inning, and after pulling ahead with
a three-run fourth, Sul Ross tied the game in the bottom of the inning.
The Tigers reclaimed the lead with a run in
the fifth, then scored three runs in both the seventh and eighth to pull
ahead 10-4. Sul Ross scored three more in the eighth - following
its run in the seventh - to cut the lead in half, but the Tigers were
too much in the end.
Weston Haaf (1-0) earned the win, going 3.2
innings and giving up just one earned run - four runs total - on five
hits. Eric Binder started the game, allowing just three runs on
four hits in the first four innings, but just one of those runs were
earned.
In his first action of the young season,
Mike Hunter struck out the final four batters in the game to close the
door on any potential comeback by Sul Ross.
Stosh Hoover had two hits and drove in
three runs to lead the offense, while Jeff Claydon was 2-5 with two runs
scored. Kyle Felix and Dylan Early drove in two runs each in the
game, both hitting doubles for the Tigers. Steven Ramos had two
runs and two RBI.
Trinity will travel to Schreiner University
on Tuesday afternoon for another non-conference game, then the team
returns home for a two-game SCAC series against Hendrix College on
Saturday and Sunday.
