Stunning hitting; Trinity offense stuns opponents
SIVA Seeding Tournament #1 Austin, Texas--February 9, 2002
A coach is always happy when the team is passing well. The key to a great offense is a good defense. That is, unless the offense hits every ball out.
Now, players are expected to hit one out every now and then. A broken play, a shanked pass, a setters dump that catches the team unawares. However, it is a very peculiar thing to watch a team pass nails and the hit AT LEAST the first eight balls out.
Trinity's first match of the SIVA Seeding Tournament against Letourneau started in the afternoon. The Tigers traditionally play first match of the morning, and complain abut it all day.
With the Tiger passers dishing up biscuits, the club could have opened a bakery. But attempt after attempt soured as hitter after hitter put balls long, wide, or both. The opposition hardly knew what to do.
Forced to call a time-out, Coach Bachman calmed down the team and got someone to finally put a ball in the court. Trinity went on to win the match 25-19 ; 25-15.
After the match Sophomore Outside Dugan Sheehan conceded, "I dropped one, but it was before the match in the bathroom." |
