Men’s Club VolleyballHosts Sand Tournament
Trinity University--April 8, 2001
For the third time in its history, the Trinity Men’s Volleyball hosted the Somewhat-Semi-Annual 2-on-2 Sand Volleyball tournament April 8. The tournament was held, in part, just for an excuse to play, and in part to raise money to help send the team to Nationals in Kansas City.
Teams were originally supposed to be co-ed, but in the end all rules were thrown to the wind as people paired up trying to win it all. Members of the men’s club and women’s varsity programs joined other avid sand players of all skill levels in an all out volleyball afternoon.
Playing with severely frayed lines and a large trench as the back line on one court, teams pit brains, skill and agility against each other in randomly assigned pool play. The top three teams in each pool advanced into single elimination play for the Championship.
At the end of the day, it came down to a battle of titanic proportions with the co-ed team of Eric Barta and Beth Patterac wuping up on Thain Alan and Brian Bachman (yes, two men’s club guys). Little consolation was gained knowing Eric Barta got the most sunburned.
Congratulations to the winners! And we hope to see even more participants next year (or maybe the year after).
