Williamsburg, Virginia
– The Trinity University Tigers women finished second Saturday
at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Cross Country
Championships and qualified for next Saturday’s nationals at
Northfield, Minn.
Trinity, led by head coach Jenny
Breuer, amassed 54 team points, just two behind regional champion
Emory in the 6k race. The Tiger women qualified for last year’s
nationals by finishing second at regionals and by winning in 2004.
Tiger junior D’Ann Arthur of
Colleyville (Covenant Christian Academy) became the first Trinity
runner to win the regional race, clocking in at 23 minutes, 1
second.
Junior Emily Loeffler of San Antonio
(O’Connor) was fourth (23:18); first-year runner Caitlin Masse of
Katy (Cinco Ranch) finished seventh (23:29); senior Leda McDaniel
of Albuquerque, N.M. (Sandia), was 19th (24:25), senior
Jennifer Burn of Nashville, Tenn. (Harpeth Hall), came in 23rd
( 24:36); and senior Alison Hoing of Steamboat Springs, Colo.
(Klein), was 35th (25:03). The runners earned All-Region
honors.
Trinity’s men finished ninth in the 8k
event with 229 points. Sophomore Chass Armstrong of Boerne (Boerne)
was 13th (26:33) and senior Jeremy Daum of Houston
(Clear Lake) was 34th (27:28), as both took All-Region
recognitition.
