San Antonio
- The
Trinity University Tigers men’s and
women’s cross country teams won the UIW (University of the Incarnate
Word) Invitational Saturday at the San Antonio State School.
Trinity’s women, who captured the event
for the second year in a row, scored 46 points to runner-up UIW’s 62.
UTSA was third with 92 points. The Tigers previously won the Texas DIII
Championships on Sept. 22 in Abilene.
Junior Emily Loeffler of San Antonio
(O’Connor) finished as runner-up (for the second consecutive year) in
the 5k race with a school-record time of 17 minutes, 55.7 seconds. Six
other Tiger runners finished in the top 20: first year Caitlin Masse of
Katy (Cinco Ranch) (4th, 18:22); senior Jennifer Burn of
Nashville (Harpeth Hall)(11th, 19:15); first year Tasha Lovell of
Albuquerque, N.M. (Sandia) (14th, 19:25); senior Leda
McDaniel of Albuquerque (Sandia) (15th, 19:35); senior Kim
Weeth of Albuquerque (Albuquerque Academy) (17th, 19:38); and
sophomore Megan Rouch of Austin (St. Andrew’s) (19th, 19:48).
The Tiger men, who were third in 2006, won
the 8k race with 51 points to 72 for Texas State-San Marcos. Prairie
View A&M was third with 75 points. Sophomore Chass Armstrong of Boerne
(Boerne) placed second at 25:50. Bryant Wright, a sophomore from Tulsa,
Okla. (Holland Hall), was fourth at 26:05. Senior Jeremy Daum of Houston
(Clear Lake) finished sixth with a time of 26:29. First-year runner Zach
Brush of Edmond, Okla. (Edmond North), was 15th, clocking in
at 27:36.
Both teams will compete next Saturday at
the Arkansas Chili Pepper Invitational at Fayetteville.
