Armstrong and Wright Highlight Cross Country Season Opener

 

San Antonio Trinity University senior Chass Armstrong of Boerne (Boerne) won the men’s Trinity Opener Cross Country Meet  - with UTSA and Texas Lutheran - early Tuesday morning at Olmos Basin fields.

Armstrong ran the 2-mile course in 9 minutes, 55 seconds. Tiger senior Bryant Wright of Tulsa, Okla. (Holland Hall), was runner-up (10:08) and UTSA’s Cole Reveal placed third (10:08).

In fourth place was Jim Stitt of UTSA (10:10) and the Roadrunners Corey Vargas was fifth (10:11). Sophomore Robert Edmonds of Trinity (San Antonio Health Careers) placed sixth (10:15).

The women’s title was captured by Dana Mecke of UTSA (11:01). UTSA swept the top four slots, with Kayla Pratt finishing second (11:33), Ashley Benes third (12:01) and Pernilla Savestrand fourth (12:07).

Trinity junior Caitlin Masse of Katy (Cinco Ranch) was fifth (12:10) and senior Jasmine Martin of San Clemente, Calif. (Tesoro), finished eighth (13:09).

The Tigers will next compete Sept. 12 at the Texas A&M Invitational at College Station.
