San Antonio
– Senior Bryant Wright won the Texas DIII Cross Country
Championships to lead the Tiger men to the team title, while Trinity
junior Caitlin Masse won the women’s race on Saturday at Texas
Lutheran
University.
Wright finished third in
last year’s race, while Masse was the runner-up to former Tiger
All-American Emily Loeffler. Wright finished nearly 40 seconds
ahead of teammate Chass Armstrong – who finished second – and the
Tiger men had five runners finish in the top 15. Zach Brush, an
All-American track & field performer for the Tigers, finished fifth.
The men’s team scored 28
points to win the title, beating runner-up Southwestern by 35
points. The Tiger men finished second at this meet each of the last
three seasons, and last won the title in 2004.
In the women’s race,
Trinity’s Caitlin Masse finished nearly a full minute ahead of her
nearest competitor to take the victory. It marks the fourth
straight season that a Tiger runner has won the women’s race (Loeffler
won the previous three). Jordan Hanson (14th) and Jenna Price
(19th) also finished in the top 20 for the Tigers, who finished
third overall.
Trinity’s women’s team was
just eight points behind UT-Tyler for second place, while McMurry
won the team event. Trinity had won the Texas DIII Championship
three straight years heading into today’s race.
The Tiger teams will be back in
action next week, returning to Seguin, Texas, for the TLU Bulldog
Classic.
