Tigers women’s cross country team won the Texas DIII Championship
Saturday with 17 points, two points shy of a perfect score they
registered while capturing the 2006 meet.
Seven of the Trinity runners finished in
the top 10 of the 6k race, including the top two, at Abilene State Park.
Junior Emily Loeffler of San Antonio
(O’Connor) repeated as champion, clocking in at 23 minutes, 49 seconds.
First-year runner Caitlin Masse of Katy (Cinco Ranch) was runner-up at
23:54 and senior Leda McDaniel of Albuquerque, N.M. (Sandia), finished
fourth with a 24:29. Tasha Lovell of Albuquerque (Sandia) came in sixth
(24:47) and senior Jennifer Burn of Nashville (Harpeth Hall) was seventh
at 24:50. Eighth place went to senior Kim Weeth of Albuquerque
(Albuquerque Academy), clocking in at 24:53 and No. 11 was senior Alison
Hoing of Steamboat Springs, Colo. (East) at 25:43. First-year Alisa Dill
of Houston (Clear Lake) was 12th with a 25:48.
The Tiger men were runners-up for the
second year in a row in the 8k event. Trinity registered 43 points, just
behind UT-Tyler with 39. Four Tiger men placed in the top 10, including
fourth-place finisher Chass Armstrong of Boerne (Boerne), who clocked in
at 26:51. Sophomore Bryant Wright of Tulsa, Okla. (Holland Hall), was
fifth (27:15) and senior Jeremy Daum of Houston (Clear Lake) placed
seventh (27:40). First-year runner Zach Brush of Edmond, Okla. (Edmond
North), was eighth at 28:11 and first year Ryan Luby of Dulles, Va.
(American International), was 19th with a 29:14.
Both teams will have off next
weekend, but will be back in action in San Antonio on October 6.
Trinity will compete in the Incarnate Word Invitational that morning.
