San
Antonio – Trinity University Tiger senior
quarterback Blake Barmore of Friendswood (Friendswood) has been selected
to play in an all-star football game. The
6-foot-3, 213-pound Barmore will play in the second annual Texas vs. the
Nation All-Star Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 2, at El Paso’s Sun Bowl.
The game pits players from Texas, in all divisions, against other
standouts from across the nation. Kickoff is at 3 p.m. Mountain Time (4
p.m. Central) and will be televised nationally by CSTV.
Further information about the game is available at

Barmore is the second Trinity Tiger to participate
in the game. Former offensive lineman Derek Farney of The Woodlands (The
Woodlands) played in the inaugural contest in 2007. “Team Nation” won
the game 24-20. Senior defensive tackle Baron Koch of Austin (Westwood)
was a standout in last month’s Aztec Bowl last month in Mexico, against
the Mexican National Team.
In the 2007 campaign, Barmore completed 246 of 387
passes (eight interceptions) for 3,399 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also
rushed for three touchdowns and was named to the All-Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference Second Team.
Last Oct. 27, Barmore was the quarterback for the
award-winning “Trinity Miracle Play” in Jackson, Miss. Trinity beat the
host Millsaps College Majors 28-24 with a 60-yard play – which consisted
of 15 laterals – before junior wide receiver Riley Curry of Sugar Land
(Clements) crossed the goal line for the victory with no time on the
clock. The crucial win kept the Tigers in the race for the SCAC title,
which Trinity later shared with Millsaps.
The Trinity play won the Pontiac Game Changing
Performance of the Year for 2007 and was named the No. 1 Sports Moment
by Time magazine. Trinity
will receive a $100,000 general scholarship as a result of the Game
Changing Performance award.
Trinity, led by head coach Steve Mohr, completed
the season with a 9-2 record and was 6-1 in the SCAC. In sharing the
conference title with Millsaps, the Tigers won their 14th
SCAC football championship. The Tigers earned the NCAA Division III
postseason bid and competed in the national tournament for the 10th
time. Eventual NCAA semifinalist Mary Hardin-Baylor beat the Tigers in
the first round of the playoffs at Belton.
Mohr, who completed his 18th season at
the Tigers’ helm, was elected SCAC Coach of the Year for the 10th
time. |
