Trinity Opens 2007 With Road Win Over East Texas Baptist

Marshall, Texas - Trinity's football team started the year off with a shutout for the second straight season against East Texas Baptist University on Saturday afternoon.

Trinity (1-0) won 23-0 in today's game, after winning 41-0 last year.  The Tigers managed just three points in the first half, committing one turnover and punting three times offensively.

The team got it going in the second half, though, scoring on consecutive possessions to open the third quarter to make it 16-0, then added the final score with just over four minutes remaining in the game.

Trinity's defense gave up just 142 yards of offense against East Texas, forcing two turnovers and holding the home team to just 3-14 conversions on third down.

Dylan Nealous led the team with eight tackles - including five solo stops - and Lee Patterson grabbed an interception that led to a Trinity touchdown.

Quarterback Blake Barmore completed 18-32 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with receiver Chris Coleman five times for 88 yards and one of the scores.

Chris Baer caught the other TD pass from Barmore - a 28-yard play that was the second score of the day for the sophomore running back.  Baer, who was injured last year against East Texas and missed the rest of the season, also scored on a five yard run.

The Tiger offense piled up 358 yards of offense overall, and the defense yielded just 46 yards rushing and 96 yards passing.

Trinity will host Texas Lutheran next weekend in the team's home opener.  Last year, the Bulldogs beat the Tigers 14-9 in Seguin, Texas.
