Phoenix, Arizona -
Former Trinity football and track & field star Jerheme Urban caught five
passes for over 50 yards and a touchdown for the NFL's Arizona Cardinals
on Sunday afternoon.
Urban's touchdown reception was the second of his
career, which has spanned three NFL teams. Urban was originally
signed with the Seattle Seahawks, but was released prior to last year's
season. Urban spent time on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad last
year, and went through training camp with the Cowboys in 2007.
After Dallas cut Urban after
training camp, the Cardinals signed him on for the season, but he had
previously been inactive through the first three weeks of the regular
season.
Taking advantage of an
injury to starting wideout Anquan Boldin, Urban stepped in and fulfilled
his role nicely on Sunday. His touchdown grab tied the game at 7-7
in a game against the previously unbeaten Pittsburgh Steelers. The
Cardinals went on to win the game 21-7.
Urban earned SCAC Male
Athlete of the Year an unprecedented four times in his career as a track
& field star at Trinity, and still holds the school records in the 100
meter dash, the 400 meter dash, and the 400 meter hurdles. He was
also one of four members of the record-holding 1600 meter relay team, as
well as being the top performer in both the long jump and the triple
jump.
As a Tiger football player,
Urban blistered the school records for kickoff returns for both a single
season and a career, as well as setting school records in touchdown
receptions for a single season, career touchdowns, and career points.
He also tied the Trinity record for career touchdown catches. |
