Trinity University Athletic Director Bob King announces the fourth
Trinity University Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take
place Saturday, Oct. 22 during the school’s Alumni Weekend.
The ceremony
will be held at halftime of the Trinity Tigers’ football game with
Centre College (Ky.), which begins at 1:30 p.m. Central Time. An open
reception will be held in the lobby of the William H. Bell Athletic
Center following the game.
King, the
chair of the Hall of Fame selection committee and University President
Dr. John R. Brazil will introduce the honorees.
The
individual inductees are: Dr. Ronald K. Calgaard, Trinity University
president emeritus (1979-1999); Mike Bacsik, baseball (1975); Terri
Hailey, women’s basketball and softball (1981); Walter Huntley, football
(1971); and Cliff Buchholz and Butch Newman, men’s tennis (both 1965).
In
addition, Trinity’s United States Tennis Association Collegiate Women’s
Championship teams will be inducted. The Tiger women won USTA national
team titles in 1968, 1969, 1973, 1975 and 1976.
A special
plaque of each 2005 honoree will be mounted on the Athletic Hall of Fame
wall in the Bell Center, along with the other classes. Recent photos,
along with photos of the honorees during their collegiate competition
days, are included on the plaques, as well as athletic accomplishments.
Nominations were received from throughout the nation. Criteria for
induction included a graduation date of five years or more from the
current academic year and the recipient must have received a degree from
Trinity, or coached a Tiger team. Service to Trinity was also included
in the selection requirements. A selection committee chose the
finalists. |
