A two-time All-American.
Became Trinity’s first tennis All-American, with Chuck
McKinley, in ’63. Also earned the honor in ’65.
Recorded a 53-2 singles record at Trinity from ’62-’65,
the best in school history.
NCAA quarterfinalist in singles (’63) and doubles (’65,
with Cliff Buchholz). The duo amassed a doubles record of
24-3 from ’62-’65.
Member of U.S. Junior Davis Cup Team from ’61-’63.
Captain of U.S. Junior Davis Cup Team in ’65.
Captured 14 national singles and doubles titles.
Played many world-class tournaments, including Wimbledon and
the U.S. Open.
Has coached the Trinity men’s team since 1986. Began
coaching the men’s and women’s squads in 1991.
As a coach, his men’s and women’s teams won the
NCAA Division III National Championships in 2000. Trinity
became the first school to win men’s and women’s
tennis championships the same year.
A native of San Antonio, served in the U.S. Marine Corps,
receiving the Navy Commendation Medal for combat action in
Vietnam. Attained the rank of captain. Won the All-Marine,
All-Navy and All-Service singles tennis championship.
A member of the Texas Tennis Hall of Fame.
