The 11th-ranked Tiger
men’s basketball team won a pair of games last week, defeating the
University of Dallas 73-58 on Tuesday, then downing Southwestern
University 86-78 on Saturday evening.
Trinity remains atop
the SCAC West Division standings with a 19-2 overall record and a 10-1
mark in conference play. The team’s 19 wins this season already
eclipses its win total from last year.
Head Coach Pat
Cunningham secured his 350th career win on Saturday night against
Southwestern. Cunningham, who is in his 10th season at the helm of the
Tiger men’s basketball program, compiled 38 wins at Manchester College
and 114 wins at the University of Chicago. He is also nearing 200 wins
since coming to Trinity, totaling 198 heading into this weekend.
Charles Houston broke
his own single season steals record during the week, and he now has 61
steals this season. He is six steals from breaking Trinity’s career
record for steals, and with eight more steals, Houston will tie for a
spot in the top 10 in SCAC history for a single season. Only nine
players in conference history have ever recorded 70 or more steals in
one year.
The Tigers travel to
Millsaps and Hendrix this weekend, continuing conference play. Trinity
swept the two teams earlier this year in San Antonio. Trinity defeated
Millsaps 55-50, followed by a 69-53 win over Hendrix. The Tigers did
lose 67-73 on the road to Millsaps last year, but beat Hendrix 75-50 in
Conway.
B.J. Moon is just eight
assists from reaching 200 in his career with the Tigers, tying with Andy
Bates (2002-06) on the all-time list. He is also seven steals from
reaching 100 in his career. With his next three-point field goal, Moon
can also be the fourth player ever to hit 40 or more threes in a season
twice in a career.
Patrick Robinson is
shooting to become the 13th player to reach 100 in a career – a mark
reached by Moon earlier this season. Robinson would be the fifth player
to reach the milestone since the 2005 season, joining – in addition to
Moon – Jason Morris (2001-05), current assistant coach Ross Burt
(2002-06), Chad Stroberg (2001-05), and Bates.
