Tigers Downed by Centre Saturday Night

Danville, Kentucky - The Tiger men's basketball team capped off a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend with a 52-61 loss at Centre College on Saturday night.

Trinity (8-9, 3-4) trailed 19-33 at halftime, hitting just 6-22 (27.3%) from the field in the opening 20 minutes.  Centre shot 43.5% for the game, and though the Tigers hit better than 52% in the second period, they still fell just short.

The Tigers hung with the home team most of the first half, but with 5:14 to play, Centre turned a four-point lead into a 15-point lead with an 11-0 run near the end of the period.

Trinity was able to cut into the lead in the second half, outscoring 22-5 through the first seven minutes of action.  The Tigers were not able to keep up that pace, though, and Centre soon had the lead back to double figures with an 8-0 run.  Once again, Trinity made another bid for the road win, cutting the lead to just two points (51-49) with just over four minutes to play.

Centre made its free throws down the stretch, though, and Trinity was unable to convert key possessions down the stretch, securing the win for the Colonels.

Charles Houston led three Tiger players in double figures with 15 points on 5-6 shooting, also collecting a team-best seven rebounds.

Brandon York added 13 points and Nick Polidoroff knocked down 3-4 field goals and 4-4 free throws for 10 points off the bench.  Polidoroff also added five rebounds for the Tigers.

Matt Nestheide led all scorers with 20 points for Centre, while Matt Jacobson added 15 points off the bench for the home team.  Nestheide and teammate Thomas Britt led the Colonels with seven rebounds.

Trinity returns home next weekend for a pair of key SCAC games against Sewanee and Oglethorpe.  The Tigers hit the road again the following weekend, taking on Rhodes and Millsaps.
