San Antonio -
The Trinity men's basketball team opened up its final weekend of the
regular season with a 54-70 home loss to Hendrix College on Friday
night.
Trinity (13-11, 7-6) led 23-18 at the half, but
could not keep up the defensive pressure on the Warriors, who hit over
55% from the field in the second period. The Tigers held Hendrix
to just 31% shooting and seven total field goals in the first half.
Trinity pulled ahead by six a few minutes into the
second half (40-34), but Hendrix rattled off six unanswered points to
tie the game with 12:31 to play. The teams played evenly for the
next few minutes, but Hendrix continued its hot scoring streak in the
second, and used an 8-2 run to take a six-point lead with 6:12 left.
The Tigers cut it to a four-point deficit with
just over five minutes remaining, but the home team would get no closer
as the Warriors capped the game with a 15-3 run.
Trinity's Brandon York led the team with 21 points
on 7-15 shooting, nailing all six free throw attempts. Charles
Houston was the only other player in double figures, scoring 10 points
on 4-7 shooting off the bench. Houston also had three rebounds,
and both he and York finished with two steals.
Casey Hill led the team with seven rebounds, while
Barrett Koch recorded four steals to go with his six points.
Andrew King led Hendrix with a solid 19 points and
17 rebounds in the game, grabbing eight of his boards on the offensive
glass. Cal Rose and Matt Seacrease added 11 points each for the
Warriors.
Trinity concludes the regular season on Sunday
against Austin College. The Tigers are jockeying for the final
positions in next weekend's SCAC Championships Tournament, and are
currently tied for fourth place.
