San Antonio -
The Tiger men's basketball team lost its fourth straight game on Friday
night, as Rhodes pulled out a 67-65 victory in the conference opener for
both teams.
Trinity (2-4, 0-1) led 35-33 at the half, holding
Rhodes to 39.3% shooting. The Lynx knocked down 10-20 shots in the
second half, though, and hit 16-20 (80%) from the foul line for the game
to escape with the win.
The Tigers had a five-point lead midway through
the second period, but Rhodes scored seven unanswered to take the lead
with just under six minutes to play. The Lynx then edged out to a
four-point lead (59-55) with 4:31 remaining, but then Trinity hit a pair
of threes on its next two possessions to take a 61-60 lead a minute
later.
In the final minutes, Rhodes hit four straight
foul shots to pull ahead by three, and Trinity's layup with 21 seconds
left made it a 65-66 game in favor of the visitors. Rhodes was 1-2
from the line with 10 seconds left after a Tiger foul, but Trinity
missed two desperation shots that would have tied the game.
Patrick Robinson led the team with 17 points in
the game, hitting 7-8 from the field and 3-4 from three-point range.
Charles Houston added 13 points on 4-8 shooting, while B.J. Moon chipped
in with 11 points.
Houston and Nick Polidoroff led the team with
seven rebounds, while Brandon York had four assists.
Rhodes was led by 13 points from Cory Smith, while
Joe Thompson and Justin Long each scored 11. Jared Hoskins hit 2-4
three-pointers off the bench and finished with 10 points.
Trinity will take on Millsaps Sunday afternoon at
noon to cap the opening weekend of SCAC play. The game will be
webcast and will also feature live stats updates.
