The Tiger men's basketball team defeated Swarthmore College 57-41 at the
Southwestern/Trinity Holiday Classic on Saturday night.
Trinity (6-5) won its third straight game behind
an outstanding second half defensive effort, holding Swarthmore to just
28.6% shooting and six total field goals in the final 20 minutes of
action.
The Tigers led 29-23 at the half, despite allowing
Swarthmore to shoot 45.5% from the field. Trinity out-rebounded
Swarthmore 34-33 - including a 10-5 edge on the offensive glass.
Brandon York led Trinity with 13 points in 20
minutes off the bench, while Mike Gilb added 11 points and three
rebounds on 5-6 shooting. Al Furlow and Jonathan Lewis each
chipped in with seven points, with both players hitting 3-5 field goals.
Steve Wolf led Swarthmore with 12 points and nine
rebounds, while Ian McCormick finished with four points and a game-best
14 rebounds.
Trinity returns home tomorrow afternoon to face
Amherst College at 4:00 p.m. Currently, Amherst is undefeated and
ranked second in the nation, according to the latest D3hoops.com poll.
