San Antonio -
Trinity's men's basketball team defeated Schreiner University 77-68 in
the team's 2006-07 home opener on Saturday night in Sams Gymnasium.
Trinity (2-0) led 31-28 at the half after senior
guard Brandon York had a put-back layup at the buzzer. Schreiner
was held to 41.4% (24-58) shooting for the game, but hit 14-17 (82.4%)
from the free throw line. The Tigers hit 28-52 (53.8%) from the
field and 16-20 (80%) from the foul line.
Sophomore Charles Houston led four players in
double figures with 18 points on 6-8 shooting - including 6-6 free
throws. York finished with 14 points and five assists in the game,
as well as adding five rebounds and hitting 4-4 from the foul line.
Senior Casey Hill knocked down 5-7 from the field
for 13 points, while Patrick Robinson came off the bench to score 12
points. Robinson hit 4-7 from the field and 3-4 from the
three-point line. Mike Gilb led the team with six rebounds.
Ronnie Barney led Schreiner with 17 points, while
Kevin Deans and Jonathan Young scored 14 points each. Young also
had nine rebounds and five assists - both team highs.
Trinity will head to Belton, Texas to face
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday night. The game will
be a doubleheader with the Tiger women's team. The Tigers will
host the Trinity/Southwestern Thanksgiving Classic next weekend.
