Trinity Overcomes Slow Start to Defeat Southwestern Friday

Georgetown, Texas - Trinity's men's basketball team completed a regular season series sweep of Southwestern University, collecting a 67-63 road win on Friday night.

Trinity (12-10, 7-5) held a 27-24 lead at halftime, despite falling behind by 13 points early in the period.  Southwestern jumped out to a 19-6 lead to start the game, but Trinity outscored the home team 21-5 over the final seven minutes of the game.  Neither team shot over 40% in the first half, hitting fewer than 10 field goals.

The Tigers shot 50% in the second half, while the Pirates were just under 43% shooting.  Trinity pulled ahead to a 19-point lead with 10:57 to play, starting the period with a 22-6 run.  The Pirates slowly chipped away at the lead, but Trinity still led by 13 with 2:58 to play - as well as holding an 11-point advantage with under one minute left.

Southwestern, though, hit clutch shots down the stretch, and Trinity missed some key free throws to make only it a five-point game with under 10 seconds left.  The Pirates then hit a three-pointer to cut it to a two-point lead before Adam Culver knocked in a pair of free throws with one second left to seal the victory for the Tigers.  The points were the only two of the game for Culver.

B.J. Moon led Trinity with 16 points in the game, while Charles Houston and Al Furlow chipped in with nine points each.  Moon hit 5-11 from the field - including 3-5 from three-point range - and grabbed four rebounds and three steals in the game.  Houston hit 3-4 three-pointers, while Furlow was 5-8 from the foul line for most of his points.

Casey Hill finished with six points and five boards for Trinity, while Barrett Koch led the Tigers with six rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench.

Southwestern's Micah Salinas led the team with 14 points and five rebounds, while Ross Hayes added 12 points and a team-high seven boards.

Trinity travels to Dallas, Texas, for a game against the University of Dallas tomorrow night.  The game will conclude the team's regular season road schedule, and will lead up to the final home weekend that features Hendrix and Austin in SCAC action.
