Trinity Tops Texas Lutheran in Season Opener

 

Seguin, Texas - The Tiger men's basketball team scored a 65-57 victory in the 2006-07 season opener at Texas Lutheran University on Friday night.

Trinity (1-0) led 35-29 at the half, shooting nearly 45% in the opening 20 minutes.  The Tigers finished the game shooting 42.9%, while Texas Lutheran hit 43.5% of its shots.  The Bulldogs were 0-11 from distance in the second half and just 2-25 for the entire game.  The Tigers hit 6-29 from three-point range.

Senior Brandon York led all players with 18 points in the game, hitting 3-10 threes and 5-8 from the foul line.  York also had four assists and three steals - both team highs.

Sophomore Charles Houston - playing in his hometown - was impressive in his first career start, tallying 16 points and four boards, knocking down 9-11 from the foul line.  Houston also tied York for the team lead with three steals.

Mike Gilb opened the year with a double-double, collecting 10 rebounds to go with his 10 points, hitting 4-5 from the field and 2-4 from the line.  Casey Hill chipped in with five points and four rebounds to go with his three assists, while Barrett Koch had seven points and two steals.

The Tigers return to San Antonio for the 2006-07 home opener tomorrow night against Schreiner University.  The game will be webcast live, with links provided tomorrow.
