The Tiger men's basketball team lost a close 57-60 game to the
University of Chicago on Friday night at the Trinity/Southwestern
Thanksgiving Classic.
Trinity (2-2) trailed 19-30 at the half, but
fought back to give themselves a shot to tie the game at the end.
Patrick Robinson's three-pointer with one second left just missed, and
the visiting Maroons avoided overtime.
The Tigers shot 42.9% (24-56) from the field in
the game - including 17-30 shooting in the second half. Chicago
hit 44% (22-50) from the floor, as well as hitting 12-31 three-point
shots.
Trinity's Casey Hill led all players with a
career-high 23 points in the game, hitting 9-13 from the field and 3-3
from distance. Hill also led the Tigers with eight rebounds in the
game.
After a 7-26 shooting performance in the first
half, the Tigers came out strong in the second - using a 13-2 run to tie
the game at 32-32 with 15:11 remaining. Chicago hit a pair of
three-pointers on its next two possessions to push the lead back to six,
then another three a few minutes later made it a 45-36 lead with 11:35
to play.
Each time Trinity climbed back into the game, the
Maroons responded with a run to pull back in front. The Tigers
were down nine with 3:36 to play, but scored seven unanswered to pull to
within two with just under a minute remaining. Chicago then hit
one of two free throws to make it 60-57 with 31 seconds left.
Hill had a mid-range jumper to make it a one-point
game on the next possession, but he couldn't get it to fall.
Chicago then missed the front end of a 1-and-1 to set up Robinson's
last-second shot that bounced off the rim.
Mike Gilb finished with nine points and six
rebounds - including five on the offensive end - hitting 4-11 shots for
the Tigers. Barrett Koch and Charles Houston both finished with
six points and six rebounds, while Brandon York chipped in with six
points and a game-high four assists.
Chicago was led by Brandon Woodhead's 16 points on
6-10 shooting (4-8 threes), and Drew Adams came off the bench to hit 4-7
three-point shots on his way to a 14-point night.
Trinity will face Farleigh Dickinson
University-Florham tomorrow night, while Chicago takes on Southwestern
University. FDU-Florham defeated Southwestern 84-75 earlier this
evening.
