Irving, Texas -
Trinity's men's basketball team finished off its final road weekend with
a 68-65 victory over the University of Dallas on Saturday night.
Trinity (13-10) led 37-31 at the half, despite
hitting less than 40% from the field and allowing Dallas to shoot nearly
50% of its shots. The Tigers shot much better in the second half,
and although Dallas also shot better, the visitors still pulled off the
win.
The Tigers opened the game with a 12-2 run and
never trailed in the first period, though Dallas did cut the lead to
just one (30-29) with two minutes to go in the half.
The Tigers jumped out to another double-digit lead
with an 11-3 run to start the second half, and led by at least nine
points most of the period. The Crusaders managed to make it a
three-point game with just over five minutes left, but Trinity was able
to hold on at the end.
Trinity's B.J. Moon led the team with 13 points in
the game, hitting 4-9 from the field. Brandon York added 11 points
and six assists, while Barrett Koch led the Tigers with eight rebounds
to go with six points.
Joe Packard led all players with 23 points and
eight rebounds for the Crusaders, while Mark Nickell and Robert Nickell
chipped in with 12 points each.
Trinity returns home next weekend to take on
Hendrix and Austin in the final weekend of the regular season.
With yesterday's win over Southwestern, the Tigers have qualified for
the SCAC Championship Tournament, hosted by Rhodes College on Feb.
23-25.
