Trinity's men's basketball team defeated University of
Pittsburgh-Greensburg 82-71 to open play at the Southwestern/Trinity
Holiday Classic on Friday night.
Trinity (5-5) led 49-27 at the half, sparked by a
20-2 run to open the game. The Tigers hit 18-32 (56%) from the
field to start the game, holding UPG to just 32.3% shooting.
The Tigers led by as many as 28 in the first half,
then Pittsburgh-Greensburg went on a 15-2 run to cut the lead to just
nine points with more than 13 minutes to play in the game.
Unfortunately for UPG, that would be as close as they got the rest of
the game.
Patrick Robinson led Trinity with 12 points in 16
minutes of play, hitting 4-8 field goals. Mike Gilb added 11
points and six rebounds, while Al Furlow chipped in with a career-best
11 points and six rebounds off the bench for the Tigers.
Charles Houston contributed six points to go with
game-highs in both rebounds (9) and steals (5) - including four
offensive rebounds. Casey Hill finished with six points and eight
boards, and both Adam Culver and Brandon York scored seven points.
Matt Rowland led all scorers with 30 points for
UP-Greensburg, hitting 10-20 shots and 8-10 free throws. Zach Liu
poured in 14 points, while Tim Gustin added eight points and a game-high
11 rebounds.
Trinity will face Swarthmore College tomorrow
evening to conclude its part in the two-day tournament, followed by a
home game against Amherst College - currently ranked second in the
latest D3hoops.com national poll.
