Tigers Take First Loss of Season on Monday

Georgetown, Texas - Trinity's men's basketball team lost its first game of the season on Monday night, falling 49-56 loss to Carthage College at the Southwestern/Trinity Finals Classic.

Trinity (6-1) trailed 20-22 at the half, then fell behind by as many as 14 points in the second period.  Carthage opened up with a 9-2 advantage early on, then led 16-10 with just over 8:00 left until halftime.  The Tigers were able to cut into that lead, tying the game at 20-20 with 1:41 to go in the first period.

Carthage used a 10-1 run in the early part of the second half to take a 36-26 lead with 13:53 remaining, and after the Tigers cut it to seven, Carthage scored seven unanswered to push it to a 14-point advantage with 5:28 remaining.

Trinity had the lead down to six with 2:24 to play, but the team could get no closer.  Neither team shot above 40% in either half, and the Tigers were hurt once again by a poor shooting performance at the foul line.  Trinity hit just 8-19 from the free throw line, as well as just 5-18 three-point attempts.

B.J. Moon led the team with 12 points, hitting 4-8 three-pointers in his 30 minutes of play.  Nick Polidoroff added eight points and three rebounds off the bench.

Charles Houston finished with five points and six boards, while Jonathan Lewis and Mike Gilb also collected six rebounds.

Steve Djurickovic led Carthage with 19 points, while Trey Bowens added 13 points.

Trinity faces California State University-East Bay tomorrow to conclude the tournament.
