San Antonio -
Trinity's men's basketball team kept its undefeated season going with a
59-40 victory over Colorado College on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (6-0, 2-0 SCAC) trailed 17-18 in an ugly
first half of play. Both Colorado College and Trinity shot under
30% in the opening period, combining for just 14 total field goals made.
Trinity was much better in the second half,
shooting over 46%, but Colorado College was still under 30% for the
second half - thanks in large part to a consistently tough Trinity
defense.
Colorado College jumped out to an early 7-0 lead,
but Trinity would later tie it and keep it close until another spurt by
Colorado made it an 18-11 lead with 5:49 to play in the first period.
Trinity finished the half on a 6-0 run, then made
it a 17-0 run into the second period to take a 28-18 lead with 16:11
remaining in the game.
Colorado College would get no closer than eight
points the rest of the way. Trinity had a 17-5 run late in the
game that pushed the lead up to 24 points with just over two minutes
remaining.
Charles Houston and B.J. Moon tied for the team
lead with 14 points in the game, while Mike Gilb added nine points and
six rebounds. Houston also added five rebounds and four steals.
Nick Polidoroff came off the bench to score seven
points and grab four rebounds in 14 minutes, while Luke Caldarera and
Jonathan Lewis pulled down six boards each to tie Gilb for the team
lead.
Nate Brodman led Colorado College with 19 points
in the game, hitting 5-12 three-pointers and 4-5 free throws.
Brady Ohlsen finished with four points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Trinity forced 18 turnovers in the game,
committing just eight themselves. The Tigers were also much better
from the charity stripe, hitting 76.2% (16-21) as a team.
Trinity will next play on December 17-18 in the
Southwestern/Trinity Finals Classic in Georgetown, Texas. The
Tigers return home on December 29-30 for the Trinity/Southwestern
Holiday Classic.
