After losing its first game of the season on Monday night, Trinity's
men's basketball team rebounded with a 59-47 win over California State
University-East Bay on Tuesday.
Trinity (7-1) and CSU-East Bay were tied 25-25 at
the half. The Tigers held East Bay to just 33% shooting in the
second half to propel the team to victory, also aided by the offense
hitting 11-21 field goals and 10-15 free throws in the period.
East Bay came out firing on all cylinders early,
taking a 15-5 lead in the opening minutes of the game. Trinity
came to life after that though, putting together a 13-3 run that tied
the game with 5:11 remaining. East Bay's layup in the final
seconds tied the game at the half.
After allowing East Bay to score the first three
points of the second half, Trinity then went on a 10-0 run to take the
lead and take control of the game. The Tigers built that lead to
12 with 10:18 to play, but East Bay rallied to within three with a 9-0
run. Trinity kept its cool, hitting 2-3 free throws and two field
goals in the next 2:30 to push the lead back to seven points and
effectively seal the win.
B.J. Moon led the team in scoring for the third
straight game, scoring 21 points on 7-14 shooting. Charles Houston
added 11 points, six rebounds, and six steals for the Tigers.
Barrett Koch chipped in with eight points off the
bench, while Patrick Robinson scored five points in 16 minutes of
action.
Trinity will return to action December 29-30 at
the Trinity/Southwestern Holiday Classic. The Tigers will face
Wabash and Ohio Northern on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
