San Antonio
- The Tiger men's basketball team lost 68-77 to Millsaps College in
the team's regular season home finale on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (15-8, 7-6) trailed 33-42 at the half, as
both teams shot better than 53% in the opening period. With the
win, Millsaps also sweeps the season series over the Tigers, after
winning 73-67 in Jackson, Mississippi earlier this year.
Both teams came out red-hot, but neither team
could pull away from the other in the early going. Millsaps used a
10-3 run late in the half to push its lead to nine, and the highest lead
they had in the period was 10 points.
After a Millsaps bucket to start the second half -
giving the visitors an 11-point edge - Trinity scored 10 of the next 11
points to make it a 43-45 game with less than five minutes elapsed in
the period. Millsaps was able to push that lead back to double
figures just a few minutes later, but the Tigers continued to come back.
Trinity's Luke Caldarera hit a three to make it
68-73 with 43 seconds to play, but Millsaps hit four straight free
throws to seal the win.
Caldarera finished with 12 points and a team-high
eight rebounds off the bench, while B.J. Moon scored 13 points to go
with four assists. Nick Polidoroff chipped in with eight points
and five boards off the bench.
Jonathan Lewis scored a career-high for the second
straight game, hitting 8-14 shots on his way to 18 points for the
Tigers.
Chad Songy led four Millsaps scorers in double
figures with 17 points in the game, and also led all players with five
assists. Lorenzo Bailey and Chris Sanders both finished with 15
points, while Edrick Montgomery scored 10.
Trinity will travel to Austin College and Colorado
College next weekend to finish off the regular season schedule.
The following weekend will be the SCAC Tournament in Conway, Arkansas.
