- Trinity's men's basketball team opened up a weekend of play in the
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 65-70 loss at Oglethorpe
University on Friday night.
Trinity (12-4, 5-2) led 34-31 at the half, but
Oglethorpe was able to erase that deficit and pull off the victory with
44.2% shooting for the game.
The Tigers opened up a 14-6 lead in the first few
minutes of the game and never trailed in the first half of play.
Oglethorpe took its first lead of the game with 14:14 to play, and the
two teams went back and forth for nearly 10 minutes.
After Trinity took a 60-59 lead with 5:28
remaining, Oglethorpe scored six unanswered points to go up by five with
under three minutes left. A three-point play cut the lead to two,
and after the home team hit 1-2 at the foul line, Trinity hit another
basket to make it a 65-66 game with just 38 seconds left.
Oglethorpe made 4-4 from the line from that point on, and Trinity was
unable to score again.
B.J. Moon led Trinity with 17 points, hitting 6-16
from the field and handing out three assists. Charles Houston
finished with a solid 16 points and 10 rebounds, hitting 6-10 shots for
the Tigers.
Patrick Robinson and Nick Polidoroff scored eight
points each.
Joe Kennedy led all scorers with 19 points for
Oglethorpe, while Todd Ward added 13 points. Ahmad Kareem Shaheed
chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Trinity will face University of the South-Sewanee
tomorrow night, finishing off the SCAC weekend.
