Trinity Bounces Back With Win Over Sewanee Saturday

San Antonio - Trinity's men's basketball team bounced back from yesterday's loss to defeat the University of the South-Sewanee 70-62 on Saturday night.

Trinity (13-4, 6-2) trailed 27-30 at the half, but the offense woke up in the second half and sparked the team to victory.  Trinity shot under 40% for the first 20 minutes, but managed to hit 16-23 (69.6%) shots in the second period to earn the victory.  The defense also held Sewanee to just 8-26 (30.8%) shooting in the final period.

Sewanee erased an early lead by Trinity in the first half, taking a 23-17 lead with just under six minutes to play, but Trinity was able to cut the lead in half by the time the period ended.  After giving up a three-pointer to open the second half, Trinity rattled off nine straight points to take the lead.

Trinity led most of the way after that, building a 12-point lead with just over five minutes left in the game.  Sewanee cut it to a six-point game with 62 seconds left, but an offensive rebound on a missed free throw gave Trinity a layup to make it 68-60 with just 41 seconds left, and the visitors were able to hang on for the win.

Charles Houston posted his second straight double-double, leading Trinity with 16 points and 13 rebounds.  Houston hit 7-9 from the field, and it was his offensive rebound and layup in the final minute that helped seal the win.

Patrick Robinson hit 4-8 from the field and 7-8 from the line to tie Houston for the team lead with 16 points.  Robinson scored seven consecutive points to start the second half for Trinity, putting his team ahead by one in the early going.

B.J. Moon also scored in double figures, finishing with 14 points and four assists, while Nick Polidoroff added eight points and four rebounds.

Ben Pursell scored 16 points to lead Sewanee, while Bradley Pierson added 15 points on 5-10 shooting.  Gary Grizzle chipped in with 10 points and seven boards for the home team.

Trinity returns home next weekend, hosting Centre and DePauw on Friday and Saturday nights.  Those two teams are the top teams in the SCAC East Division so far this season.
