San Antonio -
Trinity's men's basketball team opened its part of the
Trinity/Southwestern Holiday Classic with a 72-66 win over Wabash
College on Saturday afternoon.
Trinity (8-1) led 37-33 at the half, with both
teams shooting better than 44% from the field in the opening period.
Wabash also hit 6-8 from three-point range to keep the game close.
After the Tigers fell behind 9-13, the home team
went on a 12-0 run to claim an eight-point advantage over the visitors.
Wabash was able to tie the game at 31-31 with three minutes to play, but
Trinity hit a basket and a pair of free throws in the final minute to
pull away at the break.
Trinity pulled ahead by 11 points in the early
part of the second half, but Wabash was able to cut that lead down to
just one (55-54) with 6:52 remaining. The Tigers then hit five of
their next seven shots to take a 65-59 lead with 2:29 left, effectively
sealing the win.
Patrick Robinson and Nick Polidoroff led the team
with 14 points each, while Luke Caldarera added 13 points for Trinity.
Robinson hit 5-7 from the field, while Polidoroff connected on 7-10
shots and led the team with nine rebounds.
Andrew Zimmer led all scorers with 19 points for
Wabash, while Gary Simkus added 16 points on 7-13 shooting. Both
players collected eight rebounds to lead the team.
Trinity will face Ohio Northern tomorrow afternoon
to conclude the tournament. Wabash will face Southwestern.
Ohio Northern defeated Southwestern 62-44 earlier today.
