- The Tiger men's basketball team finished off a weekend of Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 74-62 win at Austin College
on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (6-1, 2-0) trailed 28-30 at the half after
shooting less than 35% from the field to start off the game.
Austin College hit over 40% in the first half, but finished the game by
hitting just 10-32 (31.3%) from the floor and 3-11 (27.3%) from
three-point range.
The Tigers not only stepped up the offense by
shooting over 40% in the second half, but also nailed 22-27 (81.5%) from
the foul line in the second half.
Austin College led by as many as six points in the
first half, but could never pull any further away from the Tigers.
Trinity also held a small lead in the half, but the 'Roos used an 11-2
run to go back up by five late in the half.
To start the second half, Trinity scored nine of
11 points to go up 37-32 after a little more than five minutes gone by.
Though Austin College hung close for the next few minutes, Trinity never
trailed again in the game. Austin College cut the lead to seven
points with 34 seconds left, but the Tigers hit 7-8 from the free throw
line to seal the win.
Luke Caldarera led Trinity in scoring and
rebounding for the second straight game this weekend, tallying 15 points
and a career-best 15 rebounds.
Michael Tobolowsky came off the bench for a
career-high 10 points, hitting 6-7 foul shots and grabbing a pair of
steals. Four players finished with nine points each, including
Charles Houston - who also had 11 rebounds and three assists in the
game.
Trinity returns to action on December 18-19 at the
Southwestern/Trinity Holiday Classic in Georgetown, Texas. The
Tigers will take on Lakeland College and Marian University in the
tournament, then will host SUNY Institute of Technology on December 31. |
